June 2011 Solar Eclipse

The New Moon of June 1, 2011 is a partial Solar Eclipse, falling at 11° Gemini, an intellectual sign. We then have a total Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius on June 15, while the next New Moon of July 1, 2011 is another Solar Eclipse in Cancer. Each eclipse is part of a larger series of eclipses called the Saros Series. When one series is ending off and another is taking over, we have more than the usual number of eclipses during that year. This is explained in more detail in my book, Eclipses, on page 260.

This Gemini Solar Eclipse falls in the Eighth House in the chart cast for Washington D.C. An eclipse in the Eighth House tends to bring trouble through financial affairs. This house rules such things as pensions and social security. We are still under the influence of the Aries Ingress until June 21, 2011, which showed critical and difficult changes affecting finances due to Saturn opposing Jupiter. Now, in this Solar Eclipse chart, the Sun and Moon is trine Saturn, which is fortunate for economic management. New ambitious ideas, policies and implementations encourage thrift. New developments lean toward a more frugal and conservative approach. That is Saturn’s way. There’s an attempt to decrease expenses and budget shortfalls, though some of the new ideas and measures will not be popular. While gains can come, it is not through growth and increase, but through methodical systems and prudence; more like negative gains. Notice that there are final degrees on the cusps of the Second and Eighth houses, indicating that changes are at hand.

The trine of NM to Saturn, which is the closest aspect in the chart, is also generally good for building, mining, and for occupations ruled by Saturn. There are new regulations connected to these. This aspect suggests a helpful trend for workers and labor generally. There may be benefits for aged workers. Since Saturn is in the Twelfth House, this also brings benefits to the poorer classes, with improved regulations and administration in public institutions.

This chart shows the bulk of the planetary energy on the western side of the chart, which is said to be about karma reaping as opposed to karma sowing. There are situations that are out of our control and this reflects the global unrest and continuing turmoil in the Middle East as people rise up against oppressive governments as noted in the t-square of Uranus, Pluto and Saturn. Note that Uranus falls just shy of the Sixth House cusp and it is afflicted. This suggests sudden or unexpected problems in military affairs; accidents or explosions on vessels. There may be new military strategies implemented. Workers strikes sometimes follow this position of Uranus as well. The Sixth House also rules public health.

Jupiter falls near the cusp of the Seventh House, which brings a ray of hope. This suggests friendlier relations can soon be established with other nations or that an important agreement may be considered. Important visitors come from and are sent to other countries. Financial relations and dealings with other countries should improve. This is more noticeable after the Full Moon of June 15. Jupiter sextile Neptune is good for bringing increased goodwill within the country and between nations. People are more charitable. This suggests that the masses will benefit in some way.

Jupiter’s position in the Seventh House also suggests that the marriage rate goes up, or that some high profile or important marriage takes place. Venus and Mars are together in the same house, also emphasizing such developments as increased marriages, partnerships or even mergers of a financial sort. But, Venus is semi-square Uranus so there may also be some surprising marital troubles and woes. (Click on the image to view the chart, then use your back button.)

A Solar Eclipse in the Eighth House sometimes heralds the resignation or death of an important person. It symbolizes concerns about crimes of violence. Mercury is conjunct the Eighth House cusp while ruling the sign of the eclipse. It is sesquiquad Saturn and square Neptune. Mercury indicates an increased likelihood of deaths in literary or publishing circles or among travelers. Pluto in the Third House has similar connotations; there’s the possible death of a literary person, and since Pluto is afflicted, there are dangers of travel accidents or problems impacting transport and communications; railways, roadways, the Post Office, etc.

At the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse of June 15, 2011, we are also under Moon Wobble effects. A Lunar Eclipse indicates a more emotional time generally but this Moon Wobble indicates a ten day window, from about June 10 – 20, for not only increased emotionalism and edginess, but an increase in bizarre weather or other dire events. There are often severe weather related events with a Moon Wobble, but they have also coincided with raised terror threat levels, space shuttle mishaps, trapped minors, heat waves, fires, etc. We are still under the Aries Ingress till June 21, which showed extreme weather and land conditions. Weather is now damp, freaky, and changeable, with possible storms, while there are still chances for earthquakes with a Fixed sign on the cusp of the Fourth House. As far as other potential hazards, since Mercury joins the South Node at Lunar Eclipse, then stimulates Ingress planets, going on to square or oppose several transiting outer planets, this urges caution while traveling during this Moon Wobble window. June 16 – 17 appears to be a very newsworthy couple of days.

This Solar Eclipse chart shows fixed signs on the angles, suggesting that some permanent changes will be made. The Lunar Eclipse has similar chart features and also shows emphasis in the money houses, indicating a continuing trend of focus on the economy and financial factors during June. Oftentimes, the things shown in the New Moon chart begin to bear fruit at the Full Moon.

In your own chart, note the house where this eclipse at 11° Gemini is falling. The affairs ruled by this house are in a transformational process. There are changes occurring here and in the opposite house. If the eclipse falls near one of your planets, then this eclipse has special meaning for you. Each planet has specific significance, but let’s take the example of the Sun. If an eclipse falls within a few days of your birthday you need to be extra careful, for this can bring an accident prone period. Since this Gemini eclipse has the influence of the South Node, this may also mean that you’d experience something of an identity crisis. My book, Eclipses, gives detailed explanations of how you might be impacted should the eclipse fall on any one of your planets. In general, for everyone, a Solar Eclipse often puts us into reaction mode in handling our affairs, especially should our self-image be threatened. There’s an increased likelihood of reacting impulsively to defend ourselves. Thus, we can easily make regrettable mistakes. It is similar with a Lunar Eclipse, when a sense of losing control can drive people to make emotional, unalterable changes, often involving relationships, without clear considerations of the consequences. That’s why it is best to refrain from implementing major changes leading up to the eclipse. Plans or actions implemented near the time of an eclipse tend not to go as anticipated. Remember that the eclipse energy impacts everyone, some more than others. Be observant. Be open to ideas, listen and learn, but allow the eclipse energy to settle some before making big changes. Take care and have a happy, progressive month! Celeste Teal 5/30/2011
