Recent and Upcoming EclipsesEclipses are powerful configurations that can be traced to events just prior to, or following an eclipse, as transiting planets stimulate the eclipse potential by aspecting the eclipse degree. The Solar Eclipse of January 26, 2009 at 6 degrees of Aquarius showed a focus on economic matters with new developments. Eclipses in Aquarius, an Air sign, affects human affairs and points to sociological changes. It is a prelude to long time institutions and customs that are about to cease or laws that are about to change. Emergency spending on a large scale may be required. The last Solar Eclipse occurred January 15, 2010 in Capricorn. An eclipse in a Cardinal sign precedes many changes. It brings a focus to national affairs. The business world is often disturbed or depressed. Capricorn eclipses affect those who are prominent in business and commerce. And, this eclipse indicated out of the ordinary weather and land conditions. That eclipse received stimulation in mid April, near the same time that several other eclipses got stimulation from Mars, Saturn and Uranus. April brought many events of national importance. Our next Lunar Eclipse, June 26, 2010, falls in Capricorn and the next Solar Eclipse, July 11, 2010, falls in Cancer. These are both also Cardinal signs, so there are many changes on the horizon. The Cancer eclipse brings a focus to domestic policy, public welfare, taxes, social security, and vital statistics. Stay abreast of what is coming by linking to Lunations regularly to follow the US Forecasts based on Eclipses and New Moons. There, you can also learn more about Eclipse Phenomenon. Mars is considered a primary timer for eclipse-related events, often coinciding with dynamic happenings as it frequently presents a conflict to expose a situation in need of remedy. Mars gets things started. The Solar Eclipse of July 1st 2000 had Mars accompanying the Sun & Moon. Mars was an excellent indicator of many of the events that took place, including the LA rioting, major solar flares and more forest fires than in 50 years. See more about the 2000 4th of July eclipse. What about Eclipses in Your Chart? My book, Eclipses, Predicting World Events & Personal Transformation tells you everything you'll need to know to track and interpret eclipses falling in your horoscope, or to learn what kinds of changes they signify for the world. Each eclipse to 2012 is charted and discussed. Link to the Eclipses Book Info below to read more. Or, read an on site published review. |

Pluto in CapricornThose of you born around the 22nd to the 25th of March, June, September or December are undoubtedly feeling the vibes of Pluto now as it forms a potent aspect to your Sun. A powerful transit that not only convinces you that you are invincible, it actually often provides greater physical endurance. Be aware of obsessive drives though, and of pushing yourself beyond your physical limits. An unsurpassed transit for accomplishment; just be sure not to disregard others in your attempt to reach your goals. By the time this transit has passed, you'll be a changed person, inwardly and/or outwardly. For me, this transit was a very positive period. Those with their Sun in early Taurus, Virgo, Scorpio or Pisces get a softer aspect from Pluto, also empowering, and without the liabilities! Pluto remains in Capricorn until 2024. |

Decoding Earthquakes - Are We Due?Could it be
that the world is due for a big quake? And, if so, then where and when
might one occur? Earthquakes are caused by the action of eclipses, often when an eclipse falls in a Fixed sign, or, if there are other planets in Fixed signs at the moment of an eclipse, earthquakes often occur in those parts of the world where these planets are rising, setting, culminating, or on the nadir. Noted in my January U.S. New Moon report was the increased risk for earthquakes based on the triple conjunction of Chiron/Neptune/Jupiter in the Solar Eclipse chart of January 15, 2010. With these planets in Aquarius, opposing Mars in Leo, Fixed signs, this propensity for earthquakes rise. Since then there have been two major quakes in the world and many minor ones, including in the U.S., even in Chicago. Earthquakes often occur soon after an eclipse, or very near the time of an eclipse. This likelihood increases if other quake indicators are in place and if it is also a Total Eclipse. This heightened activity is due to what we might call Moon Wobble effects. A Moon Wobble occurs when the Sun forms a square to the lunar North Node. The energy is similar to that associated with eclipses, when the New or Full Moon aligns closely with the nodes. The propensity for major disasters rises for a few days before and after one of these Moon Wobbles. The Moon Wobble effects of the January eclipse were strongest on January 11, 2010, one day prior to the destructive earthquake in Haiti. The other 2010 Moon Wobbles occur April 6; July 3 (between two eclipses); and September 30. Besides being more common near eclipses, earthquake activity tends to increase near Full Moon. One way to narrow down the location where a sizable earthquake might occur is to run an Astrolocality map of the eclipse suggesting the probability for a quake, to see where on the globe the Mars and Saturn lines run as these reveal problem spots. If there are planets in Fixed signs or important conjunctions, those planet lines should be included. We can even compare this eclipse map to an Astrolocality map of the current Ingress to see if certain areas show up as problematic in both. You can verify by relocating the charts to various areas. Watch for an emphasis of planets on the angles. When the January Solar Eclipse chart is relocated to Port-au-Prince, Haiti, it shows Jupiter closely conjunct the Fourth House cusp with Neptune and Chiron close by, opposed by Mars in Fixed Leo, reflecting the potential catastrophe and devastation. The same goes for Santiago, Chile. Especially when the problem spot lies in the Ring of Fire, as Chile does, this raises suspicions. At the time of a quake many aspects will be found between the planets at the time, however, these planets will also form a number of aspects to the previous eclipse and to the planets places at that time. So, while an eclipse may denote a coming earthquake it won’t occur until the planets form numerous aspects to one another and to the eclipse. Haiti’s earthquake occurred during strong Moon Wobble effects as that Total Solar Eclipse featured planets on the angles in Fixed signs in Haiti, accompanied by the extremely forceful Saturn/Pluto square. That square formed difficult aspects to Haiti’s natal planets. In fact, the Ascendant of the earthquake chart opposed Haiti’s (recently eclipsed) natal Sun while transiting Mars crossed Haiti’s South Node. The earthquake in Chile one day before a Full Moon appears also to be tied to the Lunar Eclipse of July 7, 2009. That eclipse featured Jupiter and Neptune at 26º Aquarius, in square to Mars at 26º Taurus. Chiron was also in Fixed Aquarius as was the North Node. Relocated to Chile, disruptive Uranus fell on the MC, opposing Saturn near the IC. At the time of Chile’s quake, Mercury and Neptune were transiting 26º Aquarius, tying into the eclipse pattern. Transiting Moon in Leo opposed the outer planets in Aquarius. Transiting Mars conjoined the Lunar Eclipse South Node in Leo, while the transiting North Node (Capricorn) and the Ascendant of the earthquake chart aligned closely with the Lunar Eclipse degree! To review some steps we might take to discover where and when an earthquake might occur: Watch for eclipses in which many planets fall in Fixed signs, especially when there are afflicting aspects involving these, and in particular if other dire aspects form at the same time. Run an Astrolocality map for this eclipse to see where problem spots lie on the globe. Be alert for a potential increase of activity near the time of an eclipse, a Moon Wobble, or a Full Moon. Watch for the transiting nodes to cross an earlier suspicious eclipse; within three degrees of the Sun/Moon. Be alert for problematic aspects at this time, especially when these form among themselves AND tie in with the particular eclipse that suggested earthquakes. Based on that Lunar Eclipse at 15º Capricorn, a degree that will be transited by the North Node in April 2010, Chile continues to be a hot spot for quakes. The Peru-Chile Branch of the Ring of Fire as well as the Middle America Branch show potential for sizable quakes even as we move toward summer and the Lunar Eclipse of June 26 at 4º Capricorn, featuring several planets in the early degrees of Cardinals, with the transiting North Node approaching that eclipse degree. Earthquakes can also increase when many planets fall in the early degrees of Cardinal signs. I might run some charts for LA and Anchorage as well. What I notice now is that the Aries Ingress chart itself is forming a number of ties to that earlier Lunar Eclipse! I would say there is a good chance for a notable quake to follow within three months of this Aries Ingress along this area of the Ring of Fire. For now, watch late March (30), early April (6) and especially around the Full Moon of April 28. As summer nears, the conjunction of Jupiter with Uranus may activate a big quake in the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia. I’ll continue to study and share observations in my monthly U.S. Forecast & New Moon report. I'm really adding to my mundane file of events. I have lots of hurricanes, earthquakes, Mt. Saint Helens, however I also like to run the New Moon chart preceding these big events to see how that chart reflected the event (New Moon cast for Washington, D.C.). For the SF earthquake in 1906, Uranus was on the cusp of the Fourth House in the NM chart preceding that quake. Uranus was opposing Neptune and both were square the NM in Aries. Prior to the Mt. Saint Helen eruption, Jupiter was with Mars on the cusp of the Fourth AND there was a fixed Grand Square between the NM, Uranus and the nodes. View the eclipse charts in my book, Eclipses. They are included to 2012, along with general comments about each. You can see a map of the Ring of Fire at this Wikipedia page. I hope the astrology students among you will find this helpful in your studies and research. This discussion originated in 2009, inspired by Dihanne*, a student who wanted to know more. Soon after my original post, I heard from Shel, who lives in L.A. She had read a recent post by Michael O'Riley, who had also noted an up-tick in potential earthquake activity using a different method. Michael had quite an influence on peaking my interest in mundane astrology in the first place - I recall reading his articles in the late 90's. So, I emailed him with my findings, we chatted a bit and now he's posted a whole page on earthquakes, with charts and photos you may enjoy. Please visit www.neptunecafe.com/teal1.html *Dihanne never had an interest in mundane astrology until she started studying electional astrology where eclipses are also important. This led Dihanne to my eclipse book, and the Los Angeles chart. Dihanne now lives in FL but used to live near L.A. and has friends there. Check out Dihanne's new blog. Galactic Times - Rear View MirrorExcerpted from the Galactic Times of 8-5-10, by Phil Sedgwick * Is it premature to look at the overly-hyped transits
of this year in the rear view mirror? True, we still have more of Saturn
to Uranus and Pluto in the next few weeks. Also, we have Jupiter to
Saturn, Uranus and Pluto with which we must contend in the next seven
months. However, one of the most likely trigger spark planet transits to
the gasoline soaked gaseous giants and potent Pluto, is complete and now
behind us in the time line rear view mirror. During this past week Mars
matched wits with Uranus, Saturn, Jupiter and Pluto, nudging to see if
he could rile them. Link to Lunations for the US Forecast. |
Casting the Solar ReturnThere seems to be a mix up in how some astrologers are approaching the Solar Return and its calculation. This chart should be cast for the place of residence. This is the city one lives or resides in during the period of the Solar Return. It is not calculated for a birthday vacation spot, which is a temporary change of location, not a change of residence. I’ve had a lot of people inquire about this, including the heads of two big families who were trying to follow their astrologers’ advice by moving everyone around on his her birthday to get the best Solar Return picture. One man felt that if he moved his son, his wife and himself that it would prevent some of the worst health effects for his son who has a serious chronic condition. In fact, the stress of all these trips would more likely make it worse. The last lady that wrote me was trying to provide trips for a family of four, not only inconvenient and impractical, but costly. Her astrologer had assured her though that if one particular trip weren’t made that “horrible things” would befall them. Her son was especially fretful over having an Eighth House Part of Fortune if he remained home for his birthday. But, she also pointed out that they’d taken birthday trips before and it hadn’t seemed to alter anything one way or the other. Her common sense was telling her something different than her astrologer. To my way of thinking, this would be like saying that you can leave a stack of bills on your desk and go away for a few days near your birthday and when you come home they are magically gone. Hmmm. I guess I just don’t get it. When you return home, you come back to the way you left things. Taking a vacation on your birthday is fine for the getaway and refreshed outlook but it is not necessary. Actually, I spent several years researching the return charts, and if
you read your Solar Return Hope this helps clarify things a bit. BTW, if you are looking for software to calculate your Solar Return, I recommend Matrix software. WinStar Version 4 is a professional program you won’t outgrow. Winstar Express is very inexpensive, easy to learn and is great for those just getting started. What's more, Matrix has the friendliest tech staff, including an astrologer on board, with unlimited free tech support! Best Wishes, Celeste Teal Link to an article about Solar Returns Top of Page |
Crystal Bowersox – American Idol ContestantA couple of regular website visitors have written to comment on American Idol contestant, Crystal Bowersox, the hippieish girl with dreadlocks, born August 4, 1985 near Toledo, OH. With no time of birth available, a Solar chart is shown here. (Click the image for a full view, then use your back button.) Notice
there is a lot of fixedness in her chart, with five planets (six
counting Pluto) plus her
lunar nodes in fixed signs. Her Sun is in Leo, the sign of the stage
while her North Node is in Taurus, the sign of music and singing. She is
a solid, almost tough, calm and collected individual for her twenty-four
years. The Grand Cross involving her Sun, Jupiter and nodes reminds us
of how squares provide creative tension that leads to accomplishment,
although involving much sweat and sometimes many tears. The
judges are very impressed with her performances, reminiscent of Janis
Joplin, but they keep asking Crystal to let go and open up to the audience
more. Some of her stiffness is reflected in her fixed Grand Cross while
her Sun in square to her North Node indicates some blockages to her
self-expression. But, some of what is most
descriptive of this very unique contestant is summed up in my book, Lunar
Nodes, on page 115, based on her conjunction of Saturn and South
Node: “…They are bound to the old methods and mindsets … When the aspect
can be favorably accessed, drawing on the Saturn discipline,
responsibility, organization and respect for boundaries, it gives the
opportunity to do work of such remarkable mastery, precision and
expertise that they are in a class by themselves, when the competition
simply cannot touch them. They are inimitable. When doing individualized
work requiring painstaking methods, they are uninfluenced by outer
elements and are able to see it through to the bitter end. The major
influence of this combination is a life of hard work and handling
restrictions that are imposed upon them. One of the greatest assets of
this combination is that these people have more coping abilities than
most. Breakthroughs or rewards often don’t materialize until the final
hour. When such challenges are met, the individual is greatly
rewarded.” See the latest US Forecast at Lunations. See more about Lunar Nodes All the best! Celeste Teal |
Eclipses & Celebrity DeathsDavid Carradine, who died June 3rd, had his natal
Pluto at 28 Cancer. The Solar Eclipse of July 21st was activating his
Pluto, associated with death. This illustrates how the effects of an
eclipse can sometimes come early, before the eclipse. It is the
influence of the node that begins to heat/charge/turn on the area of the
chart or the planet it is transiting. Everything in that area is
sensitized. Carradine had Venus in opposition to his Pluto, and when
that natal affliction twice repeated; the opposition exact in the
progressions, and with transiting Venus square his eclipsed Pluto, he
was found dead under strange and curious circumstances. I’m
simplifying somewhat as there were multiple factors contributing to the
outcome of this eclipse on his Pluto. He was born
December 8, 1936 in Hollywood. Michael Jackson, born August 29, 1958 in Gary,
Indiana, had three notable eclipses impacting his 11:53 PM birth chart.
The lunar eclipse of February at 21 Leo fell on his natal IC for Gary,
Indiana. Eclipses on the IC often precede death, which is not to say
that anyone with an eclipse falling on the IC will die. (It will be a
significant time in family and domestic matters) When Jackson died,
transiting Mars was squaring his eclipsed IC and the transiting
Dragon’s Tail was conjunct his progressed Ascendant, often a time of
self-sacrifice. This was no doubt an accidental suicide; he might’ve
only wanted to get some rest, though this was an accident waiting to
happen and his doctors may also be held accountable. The July 7th
Lunar eclipse at 15 Capricorn squared Michael’s progressed IC. This
was a timely connection as this was the day of his Memorial, his death
having such a huge public impact, these eclipses being lunar. Masses of
people were affected on an emotional level by his sudden and unexpected
death. With transiting North Node conjunct his progressed Moon his
talent and his memory will live on forever. This Solar Eclipse at 29
degrees of Cancer squares his Jupiter of wealth. You can surmise much of
what that will be about. Again, I'm
simplifying here, highlighting the eclipse themes. The Jupiter/Neptune/Chiron conjunction is partly behind the recent rash of bizarre deaths. It fairly exudes themes of overdose from self-medicating, from over-indulging; going under a spell, taking a leave of reality. Addictive behaviors of any sort might tend to become an issue. It was under this configuration on his progressed Moon that President Obama recently admitted that he still smokes. Link to Lunations for the latest US Forecast and New Moon Report. All the best!
